The Bureau of Met briefer this morning painted a much better picture for us than last week. I trust it will be as accurate. Their report: Friday better than today, with a possibility of light showers, cloud base 2-3000 ft . Sat - scattered cloud 4-5000ft. Possible light shower in the morning but very dry afternoon. Surface wind NE 5-10

Please plan your arrival, if convenient, after 10am, but we will be up and running by 9am if you need to arrive earlier. And , please refer again to the operational note on this site.

We will have a visitors book set up. Please put your name in it and aircraft type and reg, from whence you came, and a contact telephone and /or email

We look forward to meeting you on Saturday.

Caboolture (YCAB). Procedures for fly-in toy run Saturday Dec 7th.
Normal procedure apply for operations at a CTAF non controlled airport. Please note Whilst Caboolture is a two runway airport we are required to comply with local instructions to function as a single runway airport.  That means only one runway in use at a time. Therefore , if for an operational reason, you are not able to comply with what others are using, please announce your intentions and hold clear until the runway you require is clear or is the only one in use. Other inbound traffic are requested to hold clear until their preferred runway is available to all. By holding clear we suggest at least 3nm outside the circuit area, away from built up areas.
We have a UNICOM guard on the CTAF frequency of 125.85 with two or three very experienced pilots monitoring inbound traffic who, in the event of observing this occurring, will announce it, and advise when the runways are clear. Caution Caloundra shares the CTAF frequency and has runways closely, but not exactly, aligned with ours so please listen carefully The Unicom will act as a traffic monitoring service. Should it be be necessary to give a warning of conflict they will use type and colour rather than callsign. You can also ask them for a mid field wind at any time.
Marshals will be available and you are requested to roll through to a runway exit point recognisable by the presence of marshals  there. Then please follow them to parking. If your mount is fitted with a tail skid watch for marshaller to clear you off the runway rather than rolling through. Note runway 29 is a right hand circuit, all others left hand The ERSA paragraph on Noise abatement procedures covers it well however compliance with the departure requirements of runways 24 and 29 are based on beginning your take-off run at the runway threshold.
Burgess Aviation Maintenance will be present and willing to help if you have a get-me home problem.

A meeting with BoM this morning was not promising news for the weekend, indicating continued rain will persist.

Although it was originally planned to cancel the event if this occurred, a decision has been made to postpone it to the following Saturday the 7th.

Updates will be sent out during the week as more weather information comes to hand.

Tea and coffee always available on a help yourself basis and mineral water at $1 a bottle on an honour basis.

Given SEQs storm season and the possibility of rain making the airfield unusable please check 'Christmas Toy Run, Briefing Notes' for Runway Status after 3pm on Thursday 28th.

A panel will have made a go-nogo decision based on a  briefing from  the Bureau of Met and aerodrome AROs

The Briefing Notes will also include a pilot briefing for Caboolture.

Fellow SEQ Aviators Here are a few details abut the forthcoming Dec1st AAAA/CAC toy run. We hope you will have the opportunity to meet up with local aviators that you may not have seen for a while. Even better, you may make some new acquaintances that share your interest.

This is what the day is about:

It is simply a social get together.  Flying groups from Hervey Bay, Sunshine Coast, Gympie, Watts, Caloundra, Toowoomba, Archerfield, Boonah, Gold Coast, Heck field have all been advised of the event.  We will have marshalling volunteers available from 10am to help you to a parking spot. After parking please make make your way to the clubhouse where you may help yourself to coffee or tea. Cold drinks will be available there, Lunch will be a barbecue with a self help selection of salad at a nominal cost.

After you have settled in, if you have brought a present you could meet Belinda from the Centre Against Domestic Abuse (CADA).   Belinda is their lead Operating Officer who will be in the club room near the Christmas tree. Take the opportunity of a photo op if you wish.

To ensure appropriate distribution of gifts please either leave your gift unwrapped, or if you do wish to wrap it append a note with age range, and gender. We have spent a lot of time finding the best way to distribute the gifts to distressed children and have had an enthusiast response from CADA - Moreton Bay region. During their difficult task they meet many distressed children. We are dealing with the Caboolture group. CADA also have sites in Strathpine and Redcliffe.

OPERATIONAL NOTES

The CAC web site will have some operational notes added some days before the event. Please check occasionally.

Like most aviators, I have spent too many ‘will I-wont I’ days at airports in varying weather conditions and later wished I had called it sooner and kept safe and and been able to achieve something useful in the day. With that in mind we plan to set up a weather review panel.

Two or three days before the Run Day, I will request a special briefing from the Bureau of Meteorology. Should they be forecasting severe weather or storms. I will ask four senior pilots from around SEQ to share the responsibility of making the call.

In the event we must reluctantly take the conservative but safe approach and cancel we will post it on this site. In the event we do it will be completely cancelled so there will be no catering or other than normal club facilities at Caboolture.

I sincerely hope that will not come to this but if it does, it will be with your safety and convenience in mind.

Consultation with the the Met folk will take place in the morning of Thursday 28th October - if it is a NoGo decision, it will be posted on the site by 1pm that day (Thursday 28th)
